Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers
Explore SchoolTV today! https://stjohnskwr.catholic.schooltv.me
Because parenting doesn't come with instructions, SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that has been implemented at St John’s to help support you in the challenges of modern-day parenting relating to youth mental health and wellbeing. Parenting is a learning journey and SchoolTV supports families by providing credible information from trusted sources with practical strategies to help alleviate some of the challenges being faced by young people today.
Watch video interviews with leading wellbeing specialists and browse a library of resources. Each topic is accompanied by factsheets, podcasts, books, articles, apps and other videos.
This award-winning resource helps families build relationships, foster connections, enable understanding and break down barriers to navigate a pathway towards better mental health and wellbeing for young people. It will assist you in starting those conversations on topics that can sometimes be awkward or difficult to tackle.
Parents and caregivers are the greatest influence on a young person's life and SchoolTV focuses on empowering confident parenting.
Morning Line-up: As of next week, due to the weather over the coming months, our morning line-up and welcome after the bell will only be held on Mondays. All other mornings, the children will line-up at their classroom doors when the bell goes at 8:50am.
Congratulations to Wood (Yellow) House on winning this year’s House Cross Country. The Foundation children ran 250 metres, Yr1&2 ran 500 metres, Yr3&4 ran 3 km and our Yr5&6 ran 6 kms. You should all be proud of how well your children did. A squad from Yr 3 to 6 will represent our school next week at the District level.
ANZAC Day: Last Thursday, our school captains Isla and Hugh, laid a wreath on behalf of our school community to commemorate the fallen soldiers. It was also wonderful to see so many of our students and their families taking part in the dawn service. The following day the Grade 3/4B students lead the school in an ANZAC reflection liturgy.
Mothers Days Preparations: The Friends of St John’s have organised a Mothers Day stall to be held on Wednesday 8th May, please see further information below.
Our annual Mothers Day Breakfast will be held on Friday 10th May, 7:15 - 8:30am. Students are invited to bring their mothers (or a special person if mum is unable to attend) and enjoy breakfast cooked by the staff. Please ensure you register via PAM. Our Mothers Day Liturgy will be held on Friday 10th May at 9:15am in the Church, families are welcome to attend.
Inform and Empower: During May the students will take part in their second live stream incursion for the year on digital safety and wellbeing. These sessions will inform and empower students to become more aware, clever, kind and brave online citizens. Information sheets will be sent home after the sessions.
Canteen closed 9th May: Please note there will be no lunch orders on this day.
Catholic Education Week; (20th May to 24th May): To celebrate Catholic Education Week, the 3 schools within our Parish will be holding Combined Masses at 10am on each of the following days:

Religious Education News
This term our school will be participating in the St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need during the colder months.
As part of our support for this important cause, we will be collecting various items to help those facing hardship during winter. This aligns with the Catholic Social Teaching of 'Dignity of the Human Person,' which emphasises the inherent worth and value of every individual.
We are seeking donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and winter woollies (new or gently used). These essential items not only meet basic needs but also affirm the importance of every individual's well-being and comfort, especially during challenging times. Your donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated.
Our Social Justice Leaders will be visiting classrooms this week to speak to students about this initiative, and each classroom will have a basket to collect donations. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to upholding the dignity of every person in our community.
Alycia Matthews, Religious Education Leader
